Command (NCL) (U.S.S. Newcastle)
The Command department is ultimately responsible for the ship and its crew, and those within the department are responsible for commanding the vessel and representing the interests of Starfleet.
Commanding Officer (CO) The Commanding Officer or Captain (also informally known as the "Skipper"), is typically the most senior officer aboard a vessel, and has absolute command authority wherein that vessel is concerned. The word of the Commanding Officer is treated, metaphorically, as "ex cathedra." The Commanding Officer is ultimately responsible for his or her ship and crew, is charged with effectively carrying out the orders and representing the peaceful interests of Starfleet, and furthering the diplomatic efforts of the United Federation of Planets. Executive Officer (XO) The Executive Officer or First Officer (also informally known as "Number One") is responsible for the day-to-day operations ship (such as maintenance and logistics), and the morale, discipline, and training of the crew; freeing the Captain to concentrate on strategic planning and execution. The Executive Officer is often an adviser to the Captain, and acts as a liaison between Captain and crew, resolving most personnel issues. In the absence of the Captain, the Executive Officer takes command of the vessel by default. The Executive Officer is also one of only two officers, along with the Chief Medical Officer, who can legally remove his or her Commanding Officer from duty. -
Admiralty (Admiralty & Division Staff)
The Admiralty comprises the various officers in charge of running the Special Operations Division of Starfleet.
Commander In Chief (CIC) A commander in chief (abbreviated CinC or CIC) was the supreme commander of an entire military or other type of service organization. If the person occupying this position was within the military hierarchy, they were the senior flag officer and by definition had the highest service rank possible.
Starfleet's commander in chief was a position held by the senior fleet admiral, who took orders only from the Federation Council and its president. The CIC of SOD, is a four star Admiral.Deputy Commander In Chief (DCIC) The Executive Officer or First Officer (also informally known as "Number One") is responsible for the day-to-day operations ship (such as maintenance and logistics), and the morale, discipline, and training of the crew; freeing the Captain to concentrate on strategic planning and execution. Administrative
The Administrative Department falls under the Command Department. This sub-department generally handles personnel and legal matters. It also handles administrative and clerical duties. This section reports to the Executive Officer or Second Officer as required.
Senior Personnel Officer (SPO) The Personnel Officer is responsible for maintaining and entering data into Service Records; processing new personnel, transferring personnel, preparing personnel for retirement/Fleet Reserve, preparing all types of separations; I.D. Card issuance; providing personnel with information and advice related to Starfleet occupations, opportunities for general education and job training, requirements for promotion, and rights and benefits; assisting personnel and their families with special problems or personal hardships; administering advancement examinations, ordering advancement examinations, and processing examination returns; making recommendations for assignments; writing official letters and reports, and related reports.
Answers to the Executive Officer.Admiral's Attaché (AA) The Yeoman's position is for Junior Officers or Enlisted Personnel who wish to continue as administrators. Use of this position is completely at the discretion of the Commanding Officer. File work, and sensitive message transport are but two examples of the Yeoman's possible duties. The Yeoman assists the CO in day-to-day duties that the CO would otherwise not have the time to do. Quartermaster (QM) The Quartermaster specializes in distributing supplies and provisions to personnel aboard the vessel. In addition, the Quartermaster controls all physical assignments to quarters throughout the vessel. The Quartermaster trains and supervises crewmen in bridge operations, repairs, and protocols and sets the agenda for instruction in general ship operations; maintains the ship's log, the ship's clock, and watch and duty assignments for all bridge personnel. Quartermasters ensure that all officers and crew perform their duties consistent with Starfleet directives. The Quartermaster reports to the Executive Officer.
The Ships Avatar (Advanced Hologram) is a direct interface to the ships computer. Following the success from the Emergency Command Hologram aboard Voyager, Starfleet decided to equip all future vessels with a similar program in the place of a Ships Avatar. The Ships Avatar has complete control of a Starships Systems. Even though it is part of the ships main computer systems, the Ships Avatar can go off ship when necessary.

The Chief of Engineering is not only a department head but also a senior officer, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and maintenance of the duty rosters.Head of Medical & Counselling (HMC) The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the physical health of the entire crew, but does more than patch up injured crew members. His/her function is to ensure that they do not get sick or injured to begin with, and to this end monitors their health and conditioning with regular check ups. If necessary, the Chief Medical Officer can remove anyone from duty, even a Commanding Officer. Besides this s/he is available to provide medical advice to any individual who requests it.
S/he also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.Head of Sciences (HS) The Chief Science Officer is responsible for all the scientific data the ship/facility collects, and the distribution of such data to specific section within the department for analysis. S/he is also responsible with providing the ship's captain with scientific information needed for command decisions.
S/he also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters. -

The Master-at-Arms reports to the Chief of Security. -

The medical department is responsible for the physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combating a strange plague that is afflicting the crew.

S/he assists the Chief of Security in the daily work; in issues regarding Security and any administrative matters. If required the Deputy must be able to take command of the Security department. Security Team Leader (STL) The Security Team Leader is responsible for the co-ordination and readiness of the personnel assigned to his/her team. They are in charge of the duty roster of shift assignments for his/her personnel. The Security Team Leader is a Senior Security Officer who co-ordinates through the Assistant Chief of Security/Tactical and the Chief of Security/Tactical when it comes to diplomatic functions and tackling boarding parties.

The medical department is responsible for the physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combating a strange plague that is afflicting the crew.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the physical health of the entire crew, but does more than patch up injured crew members. His/her function is to ensure that they do not get sick or injured to begin with, and to this end monitors their health and conditioning with regular check ups. If necessary, the Chief Medical Officer can remove anyone from duty, even a Commanding Officer. Besides this s/he is available to provide medical advice to any individual who requests it.
S/he also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.Counsellor (CL) Because of their training in psychology, technically the ship's/facility's Counsellor is considered part of Starfleet medical. The Counsellor is responsible both for advising the Commanding Officer in dealing with other people and races, and in helping crew members with personal, psychological, and emotional problems.

Team Commander (TC) An experienced Naval officer, with a wide range of Combat and Advanced Tactical Operations. Accountable for the actions of his/her personnel, as a result must ensure with even more gusto, due to the nature of the post, that all Starfleet rules and regulations are followed, if so required. Recon & Weapons Specialist (RWS) Usually a Security Officer or Marines who has undergone additional training to specialise in a specific area. This individual is an expert shot, and has been trained to hone that skill. This individual takes up position in cover and provides covering fire for the team as needed, returning to the team at a later time when their task has been completed. Sometimes found performing reconnaissance ahead of the team when scouting a new or unknown location.
The agent is the team armourer. Expert in small arms, small unit tactics and assault techniques, and responsible for all weapons used by the team. Can act as team leader during operational assaults.Science & Infiltration Specialist (SIS) Able to provide technical assistance regarding all scientific matters. Skilled in computer science, able to, when required, defeat security codes, and extract information. Understanding in a broad range of science subjects provides the team with an invaluable member.
Responsible for the initial infiltration of enemy locations (cultures, facilities etc). This agent often acts as a undercover agent, providing forward reconnaissance and establishing a base of operations from which the main team can operate from (safe house etc).Demolitionist & Field Technician (DFT) A Demolitionist has undergone training in the application and identifying areas for using explosives and ordinance to maximise the effectiveness to the team objectives. They are also useful in finding and disarming trip wires and traps set by an enemy unit.
Typically undergone Naval Engineering Training Courses. Responsible for the analysis of target technology, and aids the infiltration of target locations, sabotage operations, and acquisition exercises. -

Responsible for team transportation and extraction.Combat Medic (CM) Held by a qualified Doctor or Field Medic, more commonly a Naval Officer/Enlisted. Starfighters (Secondary Positions)
The best pilots in Starfleet, they are responsible for piloting the Valkyrie Fighters in ship-to-ship battles, as well as providing escort for Shuttles, and Runabouts.
Flight Leader The Flight Leader is in charge of all things related to his flight's fighters, generally a responsibility of up to 8 starfighters. As well, the flight leader is responsible for all the personnel assigned to the flight on the ship/facility, and ensuring that maintenance work is carried on the craft by Engineering. Reports to the Squadron Leader. If the Flight Leader is the senior starfighter pilot assigned to the starship, starbase or facility they report to the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer and is a member of the Senior Staff. Fighter Pilot (FP) Specialized pilot, trained in all areas and aspects of fighter combat. They are also familiar with runabouts, shuttles and transports. To be a fighter pilot the pilot must hold a rank from within the Warrant Officer Ranks or commissioned ranks. Reports to the Flight Leader. -

Engineering Specialists
The Specialists within Engineering focus are specific areas. Most commonly held by Leading/Senior Enlisted Personnel.
Research and Development Specialist (RDS) Specializing in the research and development of new technologies. Works closely with the Science Department. In addition the R&D Officer works with the Quartermaster or the Master At Arms dependant on the end result of the development process.
This position is usually held by an Officer or Senior Enlisted with ties to Starfleet Intelligence, Starfleet Research and Development (Part of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers) or Starfleet Science.Computer Engineer (CPE) The Computer Engineer is a specialised Engineer. The new generation of Computer systems are highly developed. This system needs much maintenance and the Computer Engineer was introduced to relieve the Science Officer, whose duty this was in the very early days.
A small team is assigned to the Computer Engineer, which is made up from NCO personnel assigned by the Asst. and Chief Engineer. The Computer Engineer reports to the Asst and Chief Engineer.Warp Drive Engineer (WDE) The Warp Drive Engineer is a specialised Engineer. The complexity of the Warp Drive system and impulse systems of any starship is further complicated the the different settings required for each ship. No two vessels have exactly the same system aboard, and all settings require careful maintenance and checks to ensure peek performance. On smaller vessels this task may be performed by the Chief Engineer, but larger vessel have a dedicated Officer whose role is to ensure the Warp Drive system and impulse systems run under any condition. A small team is assigned to the Warp Drive Engineer which is made up from NCO personnel, assigned by the Asst. and Chief Engineer. The Warp Drive Engineer reports to the Asst and Chief Engineer. Communications Engineer (CME) The Communications Officer is a specialised Engineer. Communication aboard a ship or facility takes two basic forms, voice and data. Both are handled by the onboard computer system and dedicated hardware. The vastness and complexity of this system requires a dedicated team to maintain the system. The Communications Engineer is the Officer in charge of this team, which is made up from NCO personnel, assigned to the team by the Asst. and Chief Engineer. The Communications Engineer reports to the Asst and Chief Engineer. Structural and Environmental Engineer (SEE) The Structural and Environmental Engineer is a specialised Engineer. From a small ship/facility to a large one, all requires constant monitoring. The hull, bulkheads, walls, Jeffrey's tubes, turbolifts, structural integrity field, internal dampening field, and environmental systems are all monitored and maintained by this officer and his/her team.
The team assigned to the Structural and Environmental Engineer is made up from NCO personnel, assigned by the Asst. and Chief Engineer. The Structural and Environmental Engineer reports to the Asst and Chief Engineer.Sensor Maintenance Engineer (SME) The Sensor Maintenance Engineer is a specialised Engineer. S/he is dedicated to the maintenance and operation of the navigation deflector, guidance, helm, reaction control systems and all other sensor systems.
A small team is assigned to the Sensor Maintenance Engineer, which is made up from NCO personnel, assigned by the Asst. and Chief Engineer. The Sensor Maintenance Engineer reports to the Asst and Chief Engineer. -
Counselling
The Counselling department is responsible for the mental health of the crew. They help the crew work through grief and stress related issues and many more that effect their lives and duties aboard a Starship.
Chief Counsellor (SCL) Because of their training in psychology, technically the ship's/facility's Counsellor is considered part of Starfleet Medical. The Counsellor is responsible both for advising the Commanding Officer in dealing with other people and races, and in helping crew members with personal, psychological, and emotional problems. The Chief Counsellor (sometimes referred to as the Ships Counsellor) is considered a member of the Senior Staff. S/he is responsible for the crew in his/her department. The Chief Counsellor is the Counsellor with the highest rank and most experience. Counsellor's Aide The Counsellor's Aide helps keep all the matters of the Counselling Department in order. S/he assigns appointments for anyone needing them, and assists the Counsellors with anything that they may need.
This position is generally held by an Enlisted Person who has training for clerical duties within the Medical/Counselling departments. Some have nicknamed this position the "Shrink's Secretary".
